Bagpipe Demise, Fiddle Rise - 1:00 pm (also presented 12:30 pm, Sun. July 9) game admission ticket required
Grandfather Mountain
Linville, NC

Come to the GMHG and stop by the large Cultural Village tent for our two 30-minute presentations on the devastating effect the Highland Clearances (mid 1700s) had on highland bagpipes, consequently allowing the fiddle to swiftly rise in popularity. Even to this day, much of traditional Scottish fiddle repertoire comprises tunes originally written and performed on the highland bagpipe. We'll perform several such tunes and trace each tune's instrumental migration, highlighting specialized 'ornaments' fiddlers use to imitate the bagpipe sound. 1:00 pm Saturday July 8 and 12:30 Sunday July 9.
